Leikki ─ The Museum of Play’s KULPS culture education supply for schools and preschools in Espoo

Instead, you can make a group reservation for a guided tour (for free) or workshop (for a fee). 

The culture and sports path KULPS aims to offer free of charge culture and sports visits to comprehensive school and preschool children in Espoo as part of their education. The museum Leikki’s KULPS activities are intended for preschool groups and comprehensive school classes and can be delivered as distance services or in a safety conscious way at school. All the museum Leikki’s KULPS activities belong to the category “As much as you want” and have been planned to fit in the curriculum.

Grades 1–6 and preschool

Package “Toys and Play in the Past and Present”
preschool and grades 1–6

The package consists of the introduction Toys and play in the past and present, the workshop Folk toy tune-up, and an assignment. The museum Leikki’s KULPS presents the students with toys and childhood from different decades and leads them to ponder on the differences and likenesses of childhood in the past and the present. In the workshop the students get to tune up their own version of the traditional wooden spinning top, or alternatively assemble and decorate a classic Neppis car to their liking. The package can be done face-to-face, with a guide that comes to the school and leads the workshop in the  class or some other room in the school, or as a distance version carried out via Teams and with the workshop material posted to the school. Playtime “Play is Children’s Work”
preschool and grades 1–4

At playtime we learn some older and newer playground games and play them together with the whole class. Games such as London bridge, the telegram murderer and watery boots will all become familiar. The playtime can be arranged inside the school or outside in the schoolyard. Length: 45 min

Grades 7–9

Package “History of Toys and Play”
grades 7–9

The museum Leikki’s KULPS!-package leads the students to look at the history of childhood and toys from many viewpoints. The package contains the introduction History of toys and play as well as the workshop Folk toy tune-up. During the introduction we blaze through the last hundred years of history in Finland with a focus on children and childhood, and ponder together how toys, play and children’s life have changed during the decades from the 1800s to today. In the Folk toy tune-up workshop we acquaint ourselves with a thousands of years old toy that is still in use. The students get to tune up their own version of the traditional wooden spinning top, or alternatively assemble and decorate a classic neppis car to their liking. KULPS!-events can be booked Mon–Fri from 9.00 onwards. The maximum group size is 30 students. Please book at least two weeks in advance: tel. 050-5900137 or info(a)museoleikki.fi. The museum Leikki’s KULPS-content belongs to the KULPS culture path class “As often as you want”, and is therefore free of charge to the class. Each class has the option of booking several As often as you want -events.
