Guided Tours

Welcome to a guided tour in the Finnish Toy Museum!

We have guided tours of various themes for different age groups. Toys are not only for young children but they connect different generations: everyone has memories of them! Toys tell about a lot of things: for example about history of childhood, the economical situation of families at different times, new technical inventions and new materials, about the history of fashion and the development of industry, about war, peace, dreams, hopes and fears. Visiting the Finnish Toy Museum can be a great way to start studying history or to return back to one’s childhood memories. For the smallest ones in the family a visit to the Toy Museum can be an easy way to approach the world of museums.

Guided tours can also be arranged outside the opening hours from 9 to 11 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday. You can have a tour in the permanent exhibition or in the special exhibition. The content of the tour can be planned according to group’s wishes. We offer tours in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian (bookings in English).

Guided Tours for Preschool Children

Toy Stories Tour

We take a look at some of the oldest toys in our permanent exhibition and get to hear their stories. Can you imagine what the 90-year-old Anna-Liisa doll or the 100-year-old train station bear have to say? Or what the kids played in the playhouse 80 years ago?

The tour takes about 20 minutes and is especially suited for the smallest daycare kids.

Animal Stories Tour

On the Animal story tour the kids get to pick animal cards from the pocket of our ”story grandma” and seek out toys representing the animals. The guide then tells a story concerning the animal. The tour finishes in the making of the kids’ very own short animal story.

The tour takes 20-30 minutes and is suited for daycare kids, preschoolers and primary schoolers.
